Computer Glasses

Why Computer Eyeglasses?

We proudly carry Gunnar brand digital eyewear.

Regular glasses are probably not quite right for computer work because computer screens are usually positioned in the intermediate zone of vision while most glasses correct for near or distance vision.

Without appropriate eyeglasses, computer users may suffer from  computer vision syndrome. Compounding the problem, many people try to compensate for blurred vision while at the computer by leaning forward or tipping their head to look through the bottom portion of their glasses which may result in sore muscles in the neck, back and shoulders.

Computer Lens Designs

There are a number of special purpose lens designs that work well for computer glasses. Because these lenses are prescribed specifically for computer use, they are not suitable for driving or general purpose wear.

There are a number of different lenses you can choose depending on you and the state of your eyes.  Dr. Randhawa will help you make the best choice for you.

Here are just some of the popular lens options:

  • single vision lenses with a modified lens power prescribed to give the most comfortable vision at the user's computer screen.

  • occupational progressive lens for people with presbyopia.  This is a no-line multifocal lens that corrects near, intermediate, and, up to a point, distance vision. It has a larger intermediate zone than regular progressive lenses making it more suitable for coputer work. However, because these lenses have less area for distance visionthey should not be worn for driving or other distance vision tasks.

  • lined trifocal lens for people with prebyopia, have a larger intermediate zone than regular trifocals and are therefore more computer-suited that regular trifocals.

  • occupational bifocal lens, have the top part of the lens dedicated to intermediate-zone vision (the zone that is encompases the computer screen) and the bottom portion for near vision (book reading).

  • clip-ons, some patients prefer computer lenses in the form of clip-ons that they can attach to their regular eyeglasses.

Dr. Randhawa can help you choose the lenses that are best for you.
